Latin American Society of Photobiology and Photomedicine Foundation

The LSPP was founded in the city of Lima, Peru, on August 29, 2002 in a meeting presided by Dr. Robert Knobler and with the presence of representatives from many countries considered the founder members, according to the following list:  Anthony Young (England), Thomas Schwarz (Germany), Dr. Fernando Stengel (Argentina), Dr. André Rougier (France), Dr. Juan Honeyman (Chile), Dr.Tania Cestari (Brazil), Dr. Henry W Lim (United States), Dr. María Teresa Hojyo (Mexico), Dr. Benjamín Moncada Gonzales (Mexico), Dr. Juan Pablo Castañedo Cazares (Mexico), Dr. Martha Valbuena (Colombia), Dr. Herbert Hoenigsmann (Austria), Dr. Michael Landthaler ( Germany), Dr. Santiago Palacios (Spain), Dr. Antonio Rondón Lugo (Venezuela), Dr. Antonio Guzmán Fawett (Paraguay), Dr. Alvaro Acosta de Hart (Colombia), Dr. Juan Manuel Zamora (Bolivia), Dr. Leonardo Sánchez Saldaña (Peru) Dr. Luis Valdivia Blondet (Peru), Dr. Eliana Sáenz Anduaga (Peru), Dr. Gadwyn Sánchez Felix (Peru) e Dr. Lucía Canales Quispe (Peru).

The first Directive Council of the Society was composed of Dr. Robert Knobler (President) Fernando Stengel (Vice-President), Dr. Leonardo Sánchez Saldaña ( General Secretary), Dr. Gadwyn Sánchez Felix (Treasurer), Dr. Santiago Palácios Alvarez (Scientific Secretary), Dr. Antonio Rondón Lugo (Secretary of  Social Activities), Dr. Juan Honeyman ( Public Relations Secretary).
 
This Society is an international organization of scientific and ethnical character formed by dermatologists and other professionals with experience in Photobiology and Photomedicine.

The mission, which guide the foundation of this institution is to suport the interests and the development of the photomedicine and photobiology in South America; to promote interest of the professionals from the university, as well as to facilitate the contact with the international societies of Photobiology. It also aims at: developing the interest for this science among academic students and professional physicians and bringing benefits to the environment and humanity; besides fomenting the scientific exchange, the fraternal relationship and to narrow the intellectual contact among the dermatology professionals.

The society intends to facilitate the periodical scientific meetings every two years, with the largest number of members possible and also to receive other professional residents in the country hosting the event, who are interested in updating their knowledge in the photobiology area and its medical use.
